Washington Commanders leader Dan Quinn has stated he bears some the fault for a major injury to the team’s signal-caller, Daniels.
Jayden Daniels, who enjoyed one of the greatest first-year performances in history the previous year, sustained a displaced left elbow in Sunday’s loss to the Seahawks. Although the quarterback throws with his dominant arm, the issue has placed his campaign in doubt. The injury was significant enough that the TV coverage avoided showing replays and multiple athletes looked away as Daniels was treated by medical staff.
Coach Quinn came under criticism as many believed Daniels should not have been on the field in the first place. The injury occurred in the final period with the Washington trailing 38-7, rendering a recovery improbable. It is typical in these circumstances for teams to insert their backup quarterback to avoid injuries to their first-string player.
“I get that. I’ve been reflecting about it nonstop, too, and, man, I erred,” he remarked of his choice to leave Jayden in the game. “That is 100% my fault.”
Marcus Mariota will be the Commanders’ starting quarterback from now on, but he will guide a roster in disarray. After reaching the NFC championship game the prior year behind the rookie’s excellence, the franchise have struggled this season. They also saw injuries to cornerback Marshon Lattimore (ACL tear) and wide receiver Luke McCaffrey (collarbone fracture) on Sunday, and have a number of other starters on injured reserve. The Washington squad are three wins and six losses on the season, and it would require a massive turnaround for the club to make the postseason.
